GIRTMAN, Ben Edward

Last Updated: 2008

Ben closed his law office in 2005. After a short break and some research, he took on the task of renovating their kitchen, half bath, and garage, and saved more than half the bid price of the job. He then renovated a residential duplex he bought shortly after law school. Ben retired from the Navy Reserve with the rank of Captain after 30 years service (4 years Active and 26 years Reserve). He enjoys reading, volunteering with numerous civic organizations, playing piano, music composition and arranging, water aerobics, working in the yard, and assisting in political campaigns supporting candidates and political issues.

Ben’s wife, Laura, is a tenured Instructor at Tallahassee Community College. She is active in the music program at First Baptist Church and enjoys reading, piano, water aerobics, and cooking. For several years she has volunteered monthly by cooking meals for the guests at the Ronald McDonald House.

Ben and Laura enjoy traveling, including recent trips to Puerto Rico, New York City, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco.

Ben and Laura have three children. Kimberly (age 28) graduated from FSU with a degree in Accounting. She married in 2004, and they have a 1-year-old son. Jane (age 26) graduated from FSU with a degree in Risk Management and Insurance and got married this past March. David (age 21) is a student at FSU majoring in Studio Art with emphasis in Graphic Design and with minors in Music and Communications. He formed his own a cappella group for a year and is now a member (music director) of All-Night Yahtzee, the FSU mixed chorus that took second place this past April at the 2008 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella at The Lincoln Center in New York City. All three children live in Tallahassee.
